RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s population has reached 27.137 million, more than 30 percent of them expatriates, according to preliminary results of the oil-rich kingdom’s 2010 census.
The official Saudi Press Agency in a report late Wednesday said the first results of the April census showed there are 18.708 million Saudis — 50.9 percent of them males and 49.1 percent females.
The report, quoting a statement by Saudi Arabia’s department of statistics, said the world’s leading oil exporter is home to 8.429 million expatriates, 70.4 percent of them males.
The holder of around one-fifth of the world’s known oil reserves, the Gulf monarchy attracts large numbers of foreign workers, most of them Asian.
