CAIRO: Sunderland’s new signing Ahmed Al-Muhammadi requested to change his name to ‘Elmohamady’ on his jersy, the Black Cats said on Monday.

The 22-year-old has been referred to by the printed press as Al-Muhammadi throughout his spell with ENPPI, his parent club.

However, the Egypt winger had the name Elmohamady put on his shirt during his competitive debut in the 2-2 draw with Birmingham on Saturday.

After the Premiership game, Sunderland stated that Al-Muhammadi wanted his name to be written in that way, saying he is registered by the authorities as Elmohamady.

The wing-back moved to the Stadium of Light from ENPPI on a season-long loan this summer.
