LISBON: Portugal’s football chief says his search for a new national coach "is still wide open" after he held talks with Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho.
Portuguese Football Federation president Gilberto Madail said late Thursday he discussed various matters with Mourinho during a visit to the Spanish capital but declined to provide details.
"Various things are being considered and that doesn’t mean Jose Mourinho is the only one," Madail said, adding he hadn’t talked to the Spanish club.
Madail is looking for a replacement for Carlos Queiroz, who was fired this month.
Portugal took just one point from its first two 2012 European Championship qualifying games. It meets Denmark and Iceland in October.
