The Shoura Council committee for agriculture and irrigation called for curbing rising prices of meat and formulating a policy for importing meat to narrow the gap between supply and demand, the state news agency reported.

The committee’s undersecretary, Salwa Bayomi, called for tightening meat market monitoring and increasing cooperatives.

The committee urged the Principal Bank for Development and Agricultural Credit to offer soft loans to farmers to encourage them to breed livestock.

MP Ali Oda said the meat crisis stems from farmers who refrain from breeding livestock due to high meat prices and the high interest rate of the principal bank on livestock breeding which reaches 18 percent.
