Egypt trains authority mulling bonds, says newspaper

CAIRO: Egypt, the world’s largest wheat importer, has bought 240,000 tons of French and Canadian wheat for Dec. 1-10 shipment on a free-on-board basis, the main government wheat buyer said on Saturday.

Nomani Nomani, vice chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), gave the following breakdown of the purchases: 120,000 tons of French wheat from Bunge at $284.50/ton, with agreed freight costs of $25.33 per ton; 60,000 tons of French wheat from Venus at $285/ton, with freight costs at $26.70; 60,000 tons of Canadian wheat from Louis Dreyfus at $275.50/ton, with freight costs of $35.89.

Since the start of the 2010/11 fiscal year on July 1, GASC has purchased about 2.35 million tons of French, US, and Canadian wheat.

In the fiscal year that ended on June 30, GASC purchased 5.53 million tons of US, French, Russian, German, Kazakh and Canadian wheat at international tenders.
