CAIRO: Customs officers at Cairo airport detained an Egyptian on Monday after finding gold jewelry stashed inside a wad of minced meat packed in his luggage, an official said.

The passenger was held on suspicion of smuggling the gold valued at about LE 250,000 ($43,700) after arriving in Cairo on a flight from Athens, the customs official told AFP.

He was likely to be released after the jewelry was confiscated, and its decomposing packaging discarded, the official said.
