CAIRO: A lawyer says Egypt’s military rulers have freed the brother of Al-Qaeda’s deputy leader after he served 10 years in prison.

The Interior Ministry released Mohammed Al-Zawahri on Thursday along with about 60 other prisoners. He is the brother of Al-Qaeda deputy leader Ayman Al-Zawahri.

Mohammed Al-Zawahri was sentenced in absentia in 1999 for his role in the Islamic Jihad. He was arrested in the United Arab Emirates and extradited to Egypt in 2001.

His uncle and lawyer, Mahfouz Azzam, confirmed his release.
