CAIRO: The Prosecutor General referred Thursday former housing minister Ibrahim Suleiman and two associates to criminal court for profiteering, the prosecution said in a statement.
The public funds prosecution found that Suleiman used his post as housing minister for illegal profiteering when he assigned three pieces of land in New Cairo worth LE 14 million to himself, his wife and daughter.
The statement said Suleiman had assigned land to his family more than once, violating laws limiting the land assigned to each family.
Investigations also revealed that he agreed to assign land to Yehia El-Komy and Emad El-Hazek in New Cairo worth more than LE 23 million, with the purpose of profiteering.
The statement said the case was part of investigations into complaints filed by former MPs, while other reports regarding the former housing minister were still being investigated.
Sulieman was referred earlier to the criminal court with four of his assistants and businessman Magdy Rasekh for illegal profiteering and squandering public funds over assigning land in Sheikh Zayed City worth of LE 907 million.
