The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, visited Cairo for the day Saturday to congratulate President Mohamed Morsy on his recent election victory. It was the first time the Emir had visited Egypt since Morsy took office. After they met with Egyptian officials, the Emir and his delegation attended an iftar hosted by President Morsy. The two parties discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries economically through investment opportunities, and other ways, according to the state-run Qatar News Agency.

The Muslim Brotherhood and the Qatari government are on notably good terms and the two sides have displayed public cooperation during Egypt’s democratic transition. Deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, Khairat Al-Shater, recently returned from a trip to the Gulf that included a stop in Qatar.
