The National Salvation Front will issue specific prerequisites for potential candidates wishing to run on its lists or name.
Parties in the front have to present list candidates that are not enemies of the revolution or oppose it, present geographically spread out candidates, have the financial resources to run a campaign, have an impressive resume especially for list leaders and finally need to have a good reputation, Al-Ahram reported.
Candidates running for the one thirds of seats contested through individual first past the post voting are required to have prior electoral experience and political influence in the district they intend to run in.
The NSF elections committee headed by former National Association for Change general coordinator Abdel Geliel Mostafa will meet today to come up with a more concrete list of requirements.
“Any candidate running on the NSF tickets must share the Front’s belief in a civil state,” NSF spokesperson Khaled Dawoud told Daily News Egypt.
The opposition bloc recently denied reports it would contest the upcoming parliamentary elections on two or more lists, insisting candidates from all the member parties would run on one unified list under the NSF banner.
There would only be two lists in places where NSF parties have several good candidates as to get the largest number of seats possible, but these districts will be few, said Al-Dostour deputy chairman and NSF member Ahmed El-Borai.
The NSF is expected to announce the formation of a more formal structure with a general secretariat and several committees later today.
