Nine people were killed on Friday during protests marking the second anniversary of the January 25 Revolution, according to the health ministry, with most coming from the Suez governorate.

Clashes broke out in front of the governorate building in the city of Suez, leaving hundreds wounded as a result of clashes with police. The army has since been called in to diffuse the situation and protect public institutions in an attempt to halt the rising number of casualties.

Among those killed was a 10 year-old boy, and at least one of the protesters died in the city of Ismailia.

A police officer is also among the list of those killed, state news agency MENA reported.
