The Division of Pharmacy Owners (DPO) in the Chamber of Commerce has decided to bring a lawsuit against pharmaceutical companies in the public sector who have cancelled discount rates for advanced payment.
The 3% discount rate for advanced payment has been applied for 25 years by agreement between pharmaceutical companies and the DPO.
The head of the DPO and the head of the holding company for pharmaceuticals held a fruitless meeting to try to resolve the issue.
“Those decisions are made by public sector companies, it’s not our responsibility any more,” said the head of the holding company for pharmaceuticals.
The DPO also held a meeting with a public sector pharmaceutical company to try to negotiate. This was fruitless, which forced the division to take legal procedures against them in order to save pharmacists’ profit rights, said Adel Abd El-Maasoud, head of the DPO.
“We agreed on this percentage 20 years ago, and we see it as pharmacists’ right to guarantee their own profits,” Farouk Fouad, a member of the DPO, told Daily News Egypt.
Fouad said that the pharmaceutical companies’ actions are illegal and give the DPO the authority to sue them, because they cancelled the discount rate for advanced payment without showing their intentions or giving any explanation.
