Friends and family of journalist and activist Ahmed Douma continued their sit-in for a fifth day in front of the High Court building. The demonstrators are demanding the release of Douma from prison.
Dozens converged in front of the High Court building awaiting the decision of a court appeal regarding charges of instigating violence in Moqattam in March.
The appeal was set for the first of July, but “protests will continue until Ahmed is released,” said the detained activist’s brother, Mohamed Douma.
Douma’s wife Nourhan Hefzy and other activists were protesting in front of the prosecutor general’s office, while others were continuing their sit-in in front of the High Court building demanding the release of Ahmed Douma until the appeal hearing.
Protests broke out on 5 June at the High Court building following the disappearance of Douma after being released on bail. Douma was detained and charged for insulting President Mohamed Morsi during a televised interview.
