During the few short weeks between the cooler winter weather and sweltering summer heat, Cairo basks in the balmy temperatures of spring. Days are sunny and warm, holding a promise of what is to come, while the evenings still have a little chill in the air that holds memories of the winter just passed.

During those few balmy spring weeks the fruit stalls fill up with fragrant fruits; downy-skinned peaches, purple plums and sweet apricots taste of sunshine and are abundantly available during this time.

Make sure to enjoy the khokh, baroo’ and mishmish while they last, though, because from one day to the next they will abruptly disappear, only to return during those brief weeks of spring of the next year.
