Several political activists, parties and factions held a press conference and issued a statement on Saturday outlining their plans for the post-30 June period.
The conference included the 6 April Youth Movement, the Popular Socialist Coalition, and Youth for the Freedom and Justice Movement, as well as former presidential candidate and labour syndicate lawyer Khalid Ali.
Ali outlined a roadmap for transition, including demands for a panel of government experts that would be responsible for leading the transitional period. It also called for the head of the Supreme Constitutional Committee to become the “acting president.”
The roadmap included plans for the creation of a general assembly responsible to choose a prime minister, as well as a new constitutional council. The council would be responsible for writing a new constitution within four months, and reviewing all legislation issued since January 2011.
Ali said that after the constitution would be written and approved by citizens, presidential as well as parliamentary elections would occur, and the Shura Council would be dissolved.
His plan also included the appointment of a new general prosecutor and the revision of the judicial authority law, concluding that all political detainees must be released, and the military trials of civilians must cease.
Ali highlighted the importance of social justice and the “restoration of Egyptian dignity,” urging the people to protest on 30 June to “bring down Morsi” and replace him with a system that is “biased towards the people’s interests.”
Ali also stressed that the military should only be responsible for protecting the country from foreign invasion.
Other representatives of political factions participated in the press conference. The Front to Defend Egypt’s Protesters representative, Ragia Omran, announced the formation of an “emergency chamber” of lawyers that will be responsible for fighting any sexual or political assaults on protesters.
Kazeboon movement representative Sally Douma presented the draft of a “people’s manifesto” that will include several plans on how to save the country. This manifesto will be a binding document which all future leaders should follow as it represents what the people want, she said.
The conference concluded with the 6 of April movement leader Ahmed Maher, who warned the crowd not to be provoked by the Muslim Brotherhood into violence on Sunday, which would “ruin the day”.
