Interim minister of foreign affairs Nabil Fahmy discussed the current situation in Egypt and regional issues with British Foreign Office Minister for Middle East and North Africa Alistair Burt and Norwegian State Secretary Torgeir Larsen.

Fahmy hosted both diplomats in separate meetings on Thursday in Cairo. He outlined the roadmap for Egypt’s political transition that was put forward by the armed forces after the ouster of Mohamed Morsi. Fahmy “emphasised the government’s commitment to its implementation in accordance with the timing contained in the constitutional declaration.”

He also discussed the formation of a committee of experts to amend the controversial 2012 constitution, according to a statement from the ministry.

Burt and Larsen were also informed of the first reconciliation meeting that occurred on Wednesday. Fahmy discussed Egypt’s economic situation and stressed that achieving “political stability and security would have a very positive impact on the level and speed of attracting foreign investment and inbound tourism.”

Fahmy discussed regional affairs, including Syria and the most recent development in the United States’ efforts to restart peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel. He stressed “Egypt’s support for the Palestinian position and the importance of ceasing the building of settlements.”

Fahmy also spoke to British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Wednesday. He assured Hague that “the door is open for various Islamic movements of different orientations to participate in the political process and we will not accept the use of violence or incitement against Egyptian citizens.”
