The Anti-Coup Prodemocracy Alliance repeated its call Thursday for “a million-person sit-in” under the banner of “Egypt Against the Coup” this Friday. The group, which rejects the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi, pledged to defy a crackdown ordered by the interim government.

The Ministry of the Interior announced on Thursday that the police would begin dispersing the sit-ins in Nahda Square and Rabaa Al-Adaweya mosque, which began over a month ago.

“The continuation of the hazardous status of Nahda and Rabaa sit-in, and the resulting terrorist acts and road blockage is unacceptable,” minister of information Doria Sharaf Al-Din said on Wednesday.

“The national alliance supporting legitimacy and defying the coup calls upon all the free people of the world to demonstrate peacefully in (an) ‘Egypt against the coup’ march of the millions,” they group said in a statement.

The alliance added they “place full responsibility on the coup leaders for any acts of violence or any killings”.

“The Egyptian people know well, after a month has passed since the bloody coup, and after several massacres, who are the terrorists who killed people praying or fasting, and killed women and children,” the group said.

More than 250 have been killed since the army ousted Morsi following nationwide protests that demanded his removal from office.
