The Conscience Front announced its rejection of the interim cabinet’s orders to disperse the sit-ins at Rabaa Al- Adweya Mosque and Nahda Square in a press conference on Thursday.
The group, which includes members of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist groups, stated that the presence of military or police forces is not a solution for a political problem, and called for negotiations with all political factions to reach a “competent” solution.
They stressed that the escalating death toll of “martyrs” complicates the current political situation, and recent events including “arrests of political figures and detaining journalists” further make finding a solution difficult.
They announced their group would be ready to act as an intermediary to adapt “any initiative that doesn’t exclude any party from the political scene.”
The group said that this initiative should occur in a democratic atmosphere, and urged a continued process of adapting amendments to the suspended constitution of 2012.
The statement concluded by calling for the release of all political detainees and journalists, and for TV channels that have been shut down after the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi to re-open.
