Mohamed Al-Zawahiri, the brother of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri, and high-ranking leader of militant group Al-Jihadeya Al-Salafeya (The Salafi Jihad) was arrested in Giza on Saturday, reported state-owned Al-Ahram.

Al-Zawahiri was caught while attempting to pass through a police checkpoint when security officials identified him.

Al-Zawahiri has been arrested a number of times for his connection to jihadi activities.

He recently made appearances on Islamist channels, and wrote statements on his Facebook page (now closed), in which he claimed that Al-Jihadeya Al-Salafeya “is monitoring the situation [in Egypt] closely.”
