The Dokki Court of Appeals upheld a one year prison sentence that had been handed down to former prime minister, Hesham Qandil, on Monday.
Qandil, who served as prime minister under ousted president Mohamed Morsi, lost his appeal in July for a case in which he failed to execute a court order pertaining to the reinstatement of employees at a linen company. He also failed to annul the sale of the Tanta Flax Company to a Saudi investor.
Major General Kamal Al-Daly, First Deputy Minister of Interior and Security Director of Giza, told state-owned Al-Ahram on Monday that when he is given orders to arrest Qandil, the decision would be implemented by security forces.
The complaint against Qandil was lodged while he was still serving as prime minister.
The former prime minister was banned from travel earlier this month for a separate case involving the alleged illegal handling of land in New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement.
