A group of Egyptian journalists protested in front of the Press Syndicate in Downtown Cairo, along with Syndicate Director Diaa Rashwan on Sunday, in objection to the attack on French satire newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
The journalists held peaceful signs that expressed their sympathy with the killed journalists, and their support for free speech.
The attack left nine journalists at Charlie Hebdo and its editor-in-chief Stephane Charbonnier dead. Two police officers were also killed in the attack, for which Al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula claimed responsibility. Media reports quoted eye-witnesses as saying the gunmen shouted ‘revenge for the prophet’, before carrying out the attack.
