The National Postal Authority (NPA) has put in place plans for several projects in 2015, according to the NPA’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Khaled Negm. The projects mainly concern developing workers’ performance and office machinisation, in the hope of improving services provided to customers and raising the authority’s income.

Daily News Egypt prepared a list of the most important projects that are planned to be run by the authority during 2015.

  1. Office machinisation: The authority will be mechanising 1,700 offices which started in 2014. By the end of 2015, it is planning to machinist 2,300 offices.
  2. Single-window system: The NPA plans to continue running the single-window system to include all its affiliated branches, making it easy for the agent to meet all his needs in one window. This service is currently offered only in 122 offices of the authority.
  3. Improving the working environment: This long-term project will take four years. It includes renewing the authority’s infrastructure and providing all employees with advanced computers.
  4. Developing human resources: Another long-term project, it  aims to develop the skills of 20,000 employees who are directly dealing with agents, through making use of their skills over four years.
  5. Electronic archives: The authority is planning to archive all documents electronically, which will save time and effort for the employees and facilitate offering high-quality service to citizens, as well as saving space in the database storage.
  6. Automatic vehicle location: In this project, the NPA plans to use the automatic vehicle location (AVL) technology in all of its 1,000 cars, with implementation for this project to start in the first quarter (Q1) of 2015.
  7. E-commerce: This project has already been announced by the authority’s former chairman, Ashraf Gamal El-Din, but it was halted for a short period. The NPA’s current chairman, Khaled Negm, confirmed that the authority is looking into launching the service. It is studying whether it will offer the service by itself, or through the assistance of a specialised company.
  8. Real estate asset investment: The authority is looking into investing its real estate assets, while it is now allocating its untapped assets hoping to achieve a bigger income either through selling, renting, or establishing projects affiliated to it.
  9. Pensions machinisation: The NPA is planning to mechanise pensions in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The authority has previously mechanised pensions at EGP 3.7m to be withdrawn through electronic machines, while it is working on machinisation of EGP 1.5m pensions during 2015.
  10. Developing printing houses: The authority plans to make use of its digital printing houses and conducted talks with the Ministry of Education to print governmental school books.
  11. Participating in the national entity: The NPA plans to invest in the national entity of the infrastructure.
  12. Expansion in bill transfer: The NPA aims to expand postal bill transfers, especially within Arab countries.
  13. Development of offices: To provide improved and better quality services.
  14. Updating customer data: The NPA aims at updating and checking the data of more than 20 million customers.
  15. Generation of energy: The authority plans to make use of its buildings’ rooves to generate energy from solar energy. Phase I of this project will start with 40 of the authority’s buildings.
