As part of Russia’s celebration of 70 years since its victory over Germany in World War II, Russian President Vladimir Putin participated in the final game of the evening in the Ice Hockey League. The game was held in one of the facilities in the Russian tourist city of Sochi, which hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 2014.
Putin wore the number 70 on the back of his shirt to participate in an all-star team that included a number of politicians and former star players of the game. They all wore the same shirt in commemoration of the war.
The 62-year-old president showed his skill in the game and scored a goal for his team and made another. Putin masters not only ice hockey, but many other skills, as he plays a number of sports including judo, horseback riding, rafting, swimming and diving in the frozen waters of Siberia, hunting, fishing, riding motorbikes, and driving Formula 1 cars. He also flies fighter aircrafts, and commands a submarine in the Baltic Sea, leading some people to call him “Super Putin”.
Putin’s participation in the ice hockey was not his first; he has participated in the final game of the evening Ice Hockey League last year, and scored six goals for his team. He was joined by Russian Minister of Defence Sergey Shoygu, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, and the governor of Moscow Oblast Аndrey Vorobyov.
The evening’s Ice Hockey League project was founded by Putin himself in 2011 when he was prime minister.
