A call supported by the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, which is witnessing an internal war of words, and endorsed by thousands, justifies killing politicians, judges, security officers and media personnel.
A statement by Islamic scholars from around the Muslim world supporting the website “Egypt Call” [in Arabic “Neda’a Al-Kenana”], called Egypt’s leadership a “killer criminal group that turned against people’s will and choice”.
The statement released Wednesday received endorsements by Islamic institutions, and the website has seen almost 350,000 signatures of support until Sunday.
“Rulers, judges, officers, soldiers, Muftis, media personnel and politicians and all who are proven to take part, even via incitement, in shedding innocent blood or unlawfully taking out souls are by Islamic law killers who are subject to the penalty of killers,” the statement read.
The Muslim Brotherhood and its dissolved political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), responded to the call, saying they appreciate and value the call. The Brotherhood added that the “revolutionary option” is a strategic option that the group will not turn its back on.
The call comes days after the Brotherhood leader and member of its top committee the Guidance Office, Mahmoud Ghozlan, wrote an opinion article that stated “the Brotherhood adheres to peacefulness and reject being dragged to violence”.
