Daily News Egypt’s journalists announce their solidarity with journalists’ protest and strike on 10 June and all demands announced by the Press Syndicate’s Freedom Committee.
Daily News Egypt assures that it is crucial for journalists to be aligned in order to attain their demands for the day and for the sake of a free press and laws that protect journalists when doing their job.
Journalists also strongly condemn arbitrary dismissals from media institutions, which have increased, and will make their best efforts to counter the phenomenon. Furthermore, journalists demand fair wages and syndical protection for all employees in the field.
All journalists detained on publishing crimes and for expressing opinions should be freed, and such violations against journalists cannot be tolerated.
Moreover, political parties’ newspapers must quickly find solutions for suspended and unemployed journalists.
10 June marks the beginning of journalists’ escalation and pressure for their rights, for better journalism and public representation and service. Demands of the strike are:
- Protection by the Press Syndicate
- Fair wages
- End of arbitrary dismissal
- End journalists’ detention
- Laws and legislations that protect press freedom and journalists’ safety
A symbolic partial strike was held by Daily News Egypt’s team Wednesday morning. Journalists will also participate in a sit-in at the Press Syndicate, followed by a rally.
