The Giza Criminal Court postponed Saturday the trial for alleged “Ajnad Misr” members to 17 October, where 42 defendants are charged with targeting police stations, security personnel and public and vital facilities.
The defendants are also charged with the attempted murder of over 100 police officers and civilians.
The case is comprised of two parts; the first includes 20 defendants and the second involves 22 others who recently joined the trial sessions.
Late prosecutor general Hisham Barakat referred the defendants to criminal court based on evidence of targeting security personnel in different areas nationwide. Barakat was killed on 29 June.
“Ajnad Misr” militant group recently claimed responsibility for the bomb explosion implemented on 16 July in Roxy Square in the Cairo district of Heliopolis, which left one police officer injured.
The group said in their statement that the bomb contained fewer explosives, to minimise civilian causalities.
