New industry minister outlines plan

The Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade will take measures to address issues facing the industrial sector, facilitate procedures to encourage and develop industrial investment and boost the role of the industrial sector in the GDP, said Minister of Industry Tarek Qabil.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry, Qabil said that he discussed with the head of the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) Mohamed El-Sewedy the main obstacles facing the sector, and the possible solutions for them.

Qabil expressed his support to the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) sector and working to develop it and raise its competitive capability, stating that the sector is a “priority” for the government.

The minister pointed out that his plan includes the completion of mega national projects, such as the Golden Triangle, the furniture city in Damietta and the industrial leather project in Alrubiki, noting the importance of protecting the national industry from illegal practices, enhancing its competitiveness and developing its policies in the short and long-term, in order to improve the quality of Egyptian products.

Meanwhile, El-Sewedy said that he discussed with the minister measures to raise the competence of the technical workers needed for industrial projects, stressing on FEI’s demand to establish agencies for technical education in all educational institutions.
