Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr announces international meeting for sustainable development in May

Representing Egypt as its governor at the World Bank (WB), Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr headed to Lima, Peru to attend the WB and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings from 7-11 October.

During her participation, Nasr is expected to meet with a number of high profile representatives from the WB, along with heads from major companies and international financing institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the African Development Bank (AFDB) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

Nasr’s meetings will focus on presenting the government’s main priorities for the coming period and what financing institutions could contribute to support it in its development plan for the Egyptian economy.

On 4 October, Nasr signed a loan agreement worth $ 550m with the WB for supporting the “sustainable sanitation services in rural areas programme”.

Going forward, the government’s main priorities revolve around supporting the state budget, to ensure the sustainability of government spending thus promoting growth. The other priority would be financing the 1m acres project for creating a new urban community complex, Nasr said earlier.
