Chinese vehicles acquired EGP 1bn of the private vehicles market in Egypt, during the first eight months of 2015, representing 4.6% of the total market sales.

The sales of Chinese vehicles amounted to 10,600 vehicles out of total sales of 130,000 vehicles, registering 7.7% of total sold private cars.

The Geely Emgrand topped the list with EGP 386m in sales from January to August 2015, with 4,491 vehicles sold.

The Speranza Tiggo came in second, with EGP 263m in sales during the same period, and 1,969 vehicles sold. The Speranza Envy came in third with total sales of 1,675 vehicles at EGP 134m.

The Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC) revealed that Chinese vehicles witnessed large declines and lost more than one third of their total sales during the first eight months of 2014. Chinese vehicles agents sold about 10,600 vehicles from January to August 2015, registering a decline of 35%, compared to the 16,300 vehicles sold in the same period in 2015.

According to AMIC, the poor performance of Geely vehicle’s sales shook the brand’s market. Sales of all Geely models declined from 10,300 vehicles during the first eight months in 2014 to 5,600 vehicles compared to the same period in 2015, registering a 50% decline.

Geely’s agent in Egypt is GB Auto, and it has a number of models in the market, including the Pandino, XPandino and Emgrand 7. The latter is the most in demand since its release in the market in 2012.
