The number of landline phone users increased by 1.8% in January, compared to December 2015, according to a report released by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
According to the report, 6.35 million people used landline phones in January 2016, up from 6.24 million users the previous month.
Despite the increase of landline phone users during January 2016, the number of landline phone users was 0.20% less compared to January 2015. The number of landline phone users fell from 6.36 million in January 2015 to 6.35 million in January 2016.
According to the report, the number of central communication offices declined by 2.5% during January, compared to December 2015, as the number of offices has fallen from 1,590 offices last December to 1,549 in January.
Subscribers to landline phone services for homes represent 88% of customers, while commercial subscribers account for 9%, and government agencies represented 3% of the customers.
The number of enterprises in the telecommunications and information technology sector recorded in January was 71 with a capital of EGP 9.9m, compared to 90 companies in December 2015, with a capital of EGP 48.1m. The companies established in January included 60 companies in the information technology sector, two companies in the communications sector, and nine companies in the technological systems sector.
The number of mobile users increased from 94 million users in December 2015 to 94.16 million users in January 2016, measuring a growth of 0.15%.
The number of internet users recorded in January declined significantly, falling from 33.8 million users in December 2015 to 26.2 million users in January 2016.
