The details behind the suspected murder of an Egyptian citizen in the United States remain unclear and investigations are expected to take up to 12 weeks, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
Mohamed Roshdy, 62, worked as a security guard for a real estate firm. He was found dead near by a rubbish bin in Indianapolis, Indiana last Friday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, preliminary investigations indicate that Roshdy suffocated to death and that criminal intent is suspected.
No documentation supporting his Egyptian identity has yet been found. However, an Egyptian expat notified the Egyptian embassy in Chicago about the incident.
The Egyptian ambassador to Chicago met with an investigative team to follow up on the investigations progress, the ministry said in a statement. “The embassy is also currently trying to communicate with the forensics department to follow up on more details,” the statement read.
The death of Roshdy sparked concerns among the public in Egypt, and was circulated on several local news websites, whereas it received no response from US officials or media outlets.
The Free Egyptians party called on US officials for rapid investigations into the killing of Roshdy.
The party said in an official statement: “American authorities should reveal the reasons behind the killing of Roshdy to the public as soon as possible and refer the criminals to trial.”
This comes amid another death of an Egyptian expat, Sheirf Adel Habib in the UK. Habib was found burned in car that was set ablaze in a garage fire in Southall, west London last Monday. The fire erupted in a residential property in Cranleigh Gardens, Southall, according to a statement from the London Metropolitan Police.
