Chinese companies dominate mobile sales globally in Q1 2016

Chinese companies have dominated the global sale of mobile phones, according to a report published by the research institution International Data Corporation (IDC).

Three Chinese companies took the top spots among the top five companies in mobile phone sales. The report also showed significant growth in sales of the three Chinese ​​companies during Q1 of 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.

A total of 334.9m devices were sold in the global market in Q1 2016, a slight growth of 0.2% compared to the same period in 2013, of which 60.3m were sold by Chinese companies.

Samsung topped the list in Q1, according to IDC’s report. The report also showed that Samsung’s sales registered 81.9m mobile devices compared to 82.4m during the same period in 2015.

These figures enabled the company to acquire 24.5% in the market, remaining in first place despite the slight sales decline.

According to the report, sales by the US Company Apple remarkably declined by 16% during Q1 2016, compared to the same period last year. The company’s sales declined from 61.2m devices during Q1 2015 to 51.2m device during Q1 2016.

Apple holds a 15.3% market share in the sale of mobile devices globally. The company remains second among companies selling mobile devices, despite the decline in its sales.

While Huawei ranked third in mobile device sales globally, selling 27.5m devices during Q1 2016. The sale figures represent an 8.2% share of the market, indicating a 4% sales growth compared to the sale of 17.4m devices in Q1 2015.

The report disclosed that Oppo posted a 153.2% increase in sales in Q1 2016, compared to the same period last year. The company ranked fourth in global sales.

OBO mobile sold 18.5m phones in Q1 2016 compared to 7.3m phones during Q1 2015, bringing the company’s global market share up to 5.5% from 2.2% at the end of March 2016.

VIVO ranked fifth as its market share increased to 4.3% at the end of Q1 2016 compared to 1.9% during the same period in 2015. VIVO’s sales reached 14.3m devices at the end of Q1 2016 compared to 6.4m devices during Q1 2015, recording a growth rate of 123%.

According to the IDC’s report, other mobile phone manufactures shared the remaining market share, estimated at 141.5m devices sold.
