President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi inaugurated the 1.5m acres reclamation project Wednesday, which aims to increase Egypt’s actual agricultural land by 20% outside the Delta.

Egypt’s main challenge is the lack of confidence in the government on the part of the public, President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said in a speech he delivered Monday morning during a session held by the Presidential Leadership Program (PLP).

Attaining harmonious public opinion is an important step, Al-Sisi said. He believes that the government cannot achieve its goals without including the public and considering its opinion.  He argued that the state’s proposed solutions or decisions should be up for public discussion.

Al-Sisi further explained that any measure undertaken by the government may seem harsh to many citizens as they are not familiar with the reasons behind issuing such decisions.

Regarding the recent phenomenon of increased prices for goods, Al-Sisi clarified that due to supply and demand theory, in addition to some regulations, the government cannot adjust these prices. He pointed to the Armed Forces’ contribution to afford the necessary goods for Egyptians.

“The Armed Forces’ intervention in affording necessary goods and food for Egyptians has managed to curb [some] price rises and helped low-income citizens,” he said.

The PLP aims to enable young future leaders to acquire the skills they need to learn about governance, and administrative and political fields.
