The total loans granted by banks to their clients, aside from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), increased by EGP 60bn to register EGP 920.7bn in May, compared to EGP 860.7bn recorded in April.
A CBE bulletin on the performance of banks over May stated that the size of loans granted to the government registered EGP 172bn in May, including EGP 47.1bn in Egyptian pounds and EGP 5.71bn in foreign currency.
Moreover, the report noted that the total size of non-government loans recorded EGP 6.748bn, including EGP 2.552bn in Egyptian pounds. The agriculture sector alone acquired EGP 8.79bn; the industry sector EGP 6.149bn; trade EGP 4.62bn; facilities EGP 1.131bn; and other sectors combined acquired EGP 201bn.
The report noted that the total size of loans granted in foreign currency registered EGP 3.196bn, of which the agriculture sector acquired EGP 6.20bn; industry EGP 6.91bn; trade EGP 6.15bn; facilities EGP 8.74bn; and a number of other sectors combined acquired EGP 1.12bn.
