At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, Egyptian swimming champion Farida Osman qualified for the semi-finals in the 100-metre freestyle, achieving a new African and Arab record.
Osman also broke all records achieved by former Egyptian swimming champion Rania Elwany at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics, 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, and 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.
On this occasion, Gezira Sporting Club’s board of directors, under the presidency of Assem Abbas, recently celebrated the Egyptian champion, honouring her achievements.
Abbas stated that this celebratory ceremony aims to honour and support Osman at the beginning of her preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
When she was 16 years old, Osman participated in the 2012 London Summer Olympics as the youngest participant in the Egyptian delegation.
