According to a report issued by the Authority of Damietta Port for August, the number of jetties entering the port declined by 5.7%, compared to the same month last year. In August 2015, ports received 209 whereas in August 2016 ports have received only 197.
Liquid-bulk ships received by the port have significantly declined by 30%, where the port received only seven liquid-bulk ships in August, compared to 10 during the same period last year. The number of special nature ships in the port also declined from six in August 2015 to five in August 2016.
The number of dry-bulk ships received by the port increased from 42 in August 2015 to 52 in August 2016, marking a 23.8% increase, whereas the number of ships carrying general goods declined by 20.7% in August 2016. This is similar to container ships, which saw their numbers decrease from 93 to 87, constituting a 5.7% decline.
In total, shipments delivered through the Damietta port declined in August by 15.8%, compared to the same period in 2015, where the port received 2.9m tonnes. According to the report, in August 2016 the port received only 2.5m tonnes.
The report added that the total number of containers exported through the port reached 28,577 container ships in August 2016, compared to 30,294 container ships during the same period in 2015, with a decline of 1,717 ships.
The number of received container ships in the port declined from 31,045 in August 2015, to 25,324 in August 2016, with a clear decline of 5,721 ships.
