An official at Telecom Egypt (TE) said that the company has started negotiations with some mobile companies operating in the Egyptian market to sign agreements for mobile voice services provision.
TE obtained a licence for EGP 7.8bn to provide 4G mobile services, and paid EGP 5.5bn, while the rest will be paid in instalments over four years.
The licence includes obtaining 15MHz frequencies to provide 4G services, while also enabling voice services through renting infrastructure from mobile companies, depending on domestic roaming agreements.
Negotiations began since the announcement of the 4G licence launch, but were suspended, according to the official.
The three local mobile companies Vodafone, Orange, and Etisalat rejected the 4G licence’s terms and conditions, and called for more frequencies and lower prices.
