The throwing of a shoe at a judge during a court session cost 19 Ansar Al-Sharia defendants a two-year prison sentence by the Cairo Criminal Court on Sunday.
According to state-owned Al-Ahram, the defendant who committed the act was stirring trouble in the court’s cage by refusing to respond to questions. He then threw his shoe, for which Judge Mohamed Shereen Fahmy sued them over insulting the court.
The court postponed hearing the case itself to the session of 3 January.
The defendants were referred to trial in 2014 in investigations that cited the “terrorist” group is based on extremist thoughts, which include: considering state authorities infidels; confronting them to forcibly change the regime; assaulting police and military personnel and facilities; and permitting the murder of Christians and destruction of their churches.
