ZURICH, Switzerland: FIFA has told warring neighbors Sudan and Chad to play their World Cup qualifying matches in neighboring Egypt.

World football s governing body said Tuesday the games will be hosted at the Military Academy Stadium in Cairo on Sept. 6 and 10.

A May 31 match scheduled to be played in Omdurman, near Sudan s capital Khartoum, was postponed after diplomatic ties were broken off between the Sudan and Chad. Their shared border runs along the troubled Sudanese region of Darfur.

Relations have since improved and it was reported last weekend that leaders of Sudan and Chad plan to meet at a peace summit.

Sudan and Chad currently trail Mali and Congo in Group 10 of African qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Matches also count toward qualifying for the 2010 African Cup of Nations to be staged in Angola. The African confederation threw Chad out of the tournament for failing to travel for the May game. -AP
