Broadcasting Saga Resolved

CAIRO: The ongoing broadcasting saga between Egyptian Premier League clubs and state TV has been resolved on Thursday.

Egyptian Higher Council of Sports president Hassan Sakr struck a deal with state TV, following an order from Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif to solve the problem immediately.

Sakr held a meeting with Egyptian Football Association chief Samir Zaher with the presence of Ahly and Zamalek chairmen Hassan Hamdi and Mamdouh Abbas.

According to the deal, local Channel 2 and the Egyptian Satellite Channel (ESC) are entitled to broadcast games for free, while private cable networks will be charged LE 8 million each.

Thursday s league games were be broadcasted live.

The broadcasting saga reached a climax on Wednesday when clubs prevented state TV from broadcasting six Premier League games, including Ahly vs. Police Union.
