CAIRO: Harras Hodoud are out of contention for a place in the African Confederation Cup semi-final after losing 2-0 to Bayelsa United in Nigeria on Saturday.
Two first-half penalties from the hosts condemned Hodoud to their third defeat in five group-stage games.
The Egyptian Cup holders had to play the second half with ten men as Botswana keeper Modiri Marumo was sent off for two bookings.
Marumo s clumsy challenges awarded Bayelsa two penalties and cost Hodoud dearly.
The 33-year-old was deputizing for Hodoud s regular keeper Mathurin Kameni, who pulled out of the squad after his son died in Cameroon.
Hodoud lost any hopes of becoming the first Egyptian team to lift the Confederation Cup trophy.
They lie at the bottom of Group A on four points, four behind second-placed Primeiro Agosto with just one match remaining.
