CAIRO: Egypt U-20 coach Miroslav Soukup revealed that the Young Pharaohs lacked team spirit because many players were only seeking personal glory.

Egypt succumbed to an embarrassing exit from the World Cup round of 16, losing 2-0 at home to the unfashionable Costa Rica.

With heavy criticism directed towards Soukup, the Czech manager defended his position by slamming unidentified members of his team.

In recent months, I was able to work well with the players on technical and tactical aspects, but team spirit is something you can t teach, Soukup said in a lengthy interview with FilGoal.com.

The players lacked unity; many of them only wanted success for themselves.

Some players become envious whenever they see their teammates doing well on the pitch.

Soukup doubted that some of his players criticized him in public after the shock World Cup exit as he expressed his dissatisfaction with Egyptian media.

Actually I am not sure that some players questioned my ability in public, because many reporters publish untrue quotes attributed to me, he added.

Anyways if the criticism from the players is true, then this would make me very disappointed.

It is easy to take me as a scapegoat because I am leaving the post soon, but those players want to clear their names in front of their own fans . no one here wants to admit being wrong.
