Fake alcoholic drinks seized before they hit Christmas market

CAIRO: Prior to Christmas celebrations some 3,000 bottles of fake alcoholic drinks were confiscated as four unlicensed factories tried to market them as well-known brands, reported the local press.

The factories that were closed down, were reportedly preparing to flood the market with alcoholic drinks said to cause blindness.

Some 800 bottles were seized at a factory located in Al Azbakia in addition to barrels of unbottled drinks as well as fake stickers of famous brands.

The factory owner was arrested and confessed to having planned to market the drinks during the Eid Al-Adha.

Also 1,500 bottles along with 20,000 fake stickers, barrels and machines were seized after police raided a second factory in Bab Al Shearyia.

The owner of a third factory in Basateen was arrested after he admitted to having bottled 240 beers with alcohol and other unwholesome ingredients.

The fourth factory in the Gamalyia, where 400 bottles were found, was raided. Its owner was arrested after he confessed that the drinks were not original.
