CAIRO: A tragic road accident in Aswan, where a bus collided with a truck killing 4, one of which was a Spanish tourist, and injuring over 37, shocked the nation.
The truck driver, his assistant and tour guide Ahmed Mahmoud had also lost their lives in the deadly crash.
According to the Associated Press, the bus was on its way to Abu Simble Temple near the Sudanese border. Al-Gomhuria daily newspaper reported that the truck was moving towards the bus in the opposite direction. When the bus driver failed to steer clear from it, the two vehicles crashed and caught fire.
The injured were sent directly to the emergency unit of Aswan Educational Hospital for immediate medical attention, Mohammed Abdullah, an employee at the hospital told Daily News Egypt.
Twenty-four of a total 31 injured left the hospital on the same day after receiving general emergency checkups. Seven were kept overnight for further observation, he said.
One of those who stayed behind was Mohammed Abd El-Hay Awad, the bus driver and Spanish tourists Hosee Louis, Carmen Demy and Mary Michelle.
Abdullah said that nobody suffered any major injuries, and even the ones who were kept overnight have already been released.
When contacted by Daily News Egypt, the Ministry of Transportation had no comment on the existence of future plans to decrease the 6,000 deaths per year from traffic accidents.
The Spanish embassy was unavailable for comment at time of press.
