61 swine flu cases in Egypt

CAIRO: By press time, the total number of confirmed cases of H1N1 virus in Egypt had reached 61, 36 of which recovered.

Over the weekend, the Ministry of Health reported seven new cases, five on Saturday and two late Friday.

According to Abdel Rahman Shahin, official spokesperson of Ministry of Health, a 19-year-old Egyptian female student who interacted with a carrier; a 20-year-old man from the Philippines; a 19-year-old man from Thailand; a 12-year-old Egyptian-American boy and a 47-year-old Palestinian who recently arrived to Cairo from the US, all tested positive for H1N1.

On Friday, Amr Kandil, deputy minister of health, reported that two Somali men who recently arrived to Cairo from London were also carriers of the virus.

By press time, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that worldwide there are 59,814 confirmed cases of H1N1, including 263 deaths.
