CAIRO: The Prosecutor General ordered on Thursday afternoon the release of three members of the April 6 Youth Movement after their arrest earlier in the day.
According to the head of the legal unit at the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information Rawda Ahmed, the official police report accused the three of propogating false news, disrupting public security and the possession of printed material with the intention of distributing it without a permit.
On Thursday, police arrested Amr Osama, Mohamed Adel and Amr Ezz as they drew graffiti against the alleged inheritance of power from President Mubarak to his son Gamal, on the walls of downtown buildings in Cairo.
At 3 am they were taken to El-Azbakeya police station before being transferred to the prosecution office.
Before the release order, about 20 members of the movement demonstrated near the Prosecutor General s Office, calling for the release of their colleagues.
If they do not release them we will organize mass demonstrations in several places, general coordinator of the youth movement Ahmed Maher told Daily News Egypt.
We suspect that security forces will continue harassing us, but that will not deter us from carrying on with our activities until we are granted the democratic requests we have put forth, he added.
The arrest comes three days after the movement concluded its conference titled The Embedded Minority: This is Cairo not Gabon, which was convened in concurrence with the National Democratic Party s (NDP) annual conference.
The movement cites the success of the Embedded Minority conference as the reason behind the arrests.
In a statement released Thursday entitled Gamal Mubarak starts a dialogue with the opposition by arresting and torturing three members of the April 6 youth movement, the movement claims that the arrest comes after it revealed to the public all the lies made by the ruling NDP during their recent conference.
It claims that the arrests were in retaliation for the movement s potent education program at schools and universities aimed at raising awareness of their constitutional rights.
The detainment shows that Gamal Mubrak lied when he said he was willing to engage in dialogue with the opposition during the NDP s conference. The NDP started its dialogue by arresting . three members of the youth movement which contradicts Gamal Mubarak s proposition for dialogue, the statement reads.
The April 6 movement called upon civil society organizations to support the call to release the detainees.
The youth will not give up in the face of the NDP s deception and suppression of the masses; we will continue to fight peacefully.
