Pop sensations Haifa Wehbe and Carole Samaha performed at a glittering gala event held at the Baron palace in Cairo, to promote their upcoming movie Bahr Al Nujoom (Sea of Stars).
Apart from Haifa and Carole, the movie, produced by Pepsi, will feature a number of Arab stars such as Ruwaida Al Mahrouqi, Star Academy s former finalist Ahmad Al Cherif and renowned Lebanese singer Wael Kafoury.
Although the cast is primarily known for their singing talents, Carole Samaha can also boast some acting experience, having received rave reviews for her recent performance in the stage musical Zenobia.
Samaha, with a background in the Rahbaniya theatrical troupe, has been getting thumbs up from critics for her acting and dancing skills in music videos.
On the other hand, Wehbe has a lot to prove. The sultry Lebanese singer has shot to fame with videos filled with sexual innuendo aided by her good looks.
The gala was hosted by television news personality Amr Adib who, in individual interviews, tried unsuccessfully to tease details of the film out of Haifa and Carole, before they each performed for the attending guests.
What exactly the movie will be about remains a mystery as Pepsi want to keep it a secret until its release later this summer, though they have said it will be a musical.
They have also confirmed to The Daily Star Egypt that the film is set in Egypt and Lebanon, but is being filmed entirely in Lebanon.
Pepsi has also pledged to support more Egyptian productions through sponsorship.
The Egyptian film industry is continually growing, said Ayman Ismail, chairman of Pepsi Egypt and North Africa.
We are hoping to encourage more local films with projects such as these.
Pepsi will be conducting a promotional campaign to select 10 winners who will then be given the chance to act in the musical.
