Ofir Gendelman, the spokesperson for Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Friday that Egypt and Jordan offered to send assistance to Israel to help in extinguishing fires that have spread across the region.
Gendelman said that Egypt will send helicopters and Jordan will send fire trucks. He didn’t specify which institution offered assistance on the Egyptian side.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ahmed Abou Zeid, told ONA news agency that the ministry is unaware of such measures, adding that he will confirm the issue and inform the press. He added the possibility that another entity might have offered the assistance “like the armed forces”.
Israel has been dealing with wildfires that continue to rage nationwide.
Both Turkey and the Palestinian Authority have offered to help Israel.
The page of the Israeli Embassy in Egypt thanked the Egyptian government “for the aide it presented to the state of Israel”.
Bilateral ties between Egypt and Israel are strong diplomatically and on the military level; however, locally in Egypt the conflict between the two countries is voiced as ongoing.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry visited Israel in June to revive the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Egypt is making continuous efforts to find solutions to the problem, and calling for peace negotiations between both countries.
Shoukry’s visit to Israel was criticised and considered unjustified and untimely.
