CAIRO: A teacher from The British International School Cairo (BISC) has coordinated a fund raising appeal for the families who lost relatives in the Dahab bombings, raising LE 40,000.
Ms. Evan Zora, who teachers Business Studies at BISC, put students and staff on the auction block, taking the highest bids to buy a slave for a day.
The students handed over excess of LE 10,000 to have their peers wait on them hand and foot, but when the teacher s lots came up the auction room resembled the futures trading floor in Chicago. The Head of Seniors, Martin Parker, went for a record LE 2,300, Dr. Morland s asking price was LE 1,600 and the ever popular Mr. White went under the hammer for LE 1,500.
Zora, who arrived in Cairo a few years ago from Birmingham in the UK, has made many friends from her visits to Dahab over the years and personally knows some of those injured in the bombings.
“The money that we raised at school and through other donations will go directly to the families of the victims. Dahab is such a special place to me and to many of my friends that in some small we can help with the healing, says Zora.

We decided to focus on 10 families who were affected by the bombings. Six of those families had tragically lost a son, and the remainder of the list includes people who were seriously injured. All these people are very poor and urgently need help.
Zora began this appeal after meeting a young German lady called Katharina in Dahab and discussing this idea with her. Katharina has already raised LE 3,500 at the time from friends and family back home, and so it was decided to raise more through BISC and its community.
Parents of BISC students, Aileen Henry, Francessca Romberg, Judy Aboul Einein and Catriona Lacy collected LE 5,240 from generous donations from the members of the ACE Club in Maadi.
The BISC drama department donated proceeds from the musical Chicago and the BISC Junior School held a mufti-day that collected over LE 5,000.
