CAIRO: The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) plans to seek assistance from the private sector and international experts to promote and upgrade six new industrial zones.

Amr Talaat, a senior official at the MTI, said new industrial zones will be constructed in Al-Mahalla Al-Kubra and Kafr Al-Dawar, north of Egypt, to build up industrial facilities for textiles and related industries.

He pointed out that a ministerial department would provide consultancy and engineering services to investors, in addition to designs for their projects in the industrial zones.

The ministry had recently approved proposals from 16 international and regional companies on upgrading industrial zones in Egypt. The companies include Emaar of the UAE and Orascom Construction Industries of Egypt, along with companies from Qatar. These companies will have the right to compete for government procurements and start new projects and industrial zones that the government may offer in the future.
